Direct Neck Lift Rancho Mirage

THE Z-PLASTY NECK LIFT

When you get older, you become aware of loose skin on your neck, often referred as a double chin or a turkey wattle. Many people want to address this skin problem, especially when your neck shows the signs of aging more than your face.

Men don't usually care about the rest of their face and body. But loose skin in the neck? That's gotta go! A direct neck excision is a surgery they will undergo to get rid of loose skin.

Direct neck lift surgery enhances and tightens the neck by eliminating excess fat tissue. This great procedure gets rid of the dreaded double chin that makes someone self-conscious and rejuvenates the neck area for a more attractive and youthful appearance.

Who is a good Candidate for a Direct Neck Lift?

Anyone in good physical health with excess skin underneath the chin and neck is a good candidate for a direct excision neck lift. You should definitely stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery. Patients with a more severe jowl or sagging of the cheek may benefit by having a facelift surgery.

What is a Z-Plasty Neck Lift?

Patients with a lax plastisma muscle, excess fat or skin are candidates for a neck lift Z-Plasty surgery, named after a vertical Z shaped incision made along the neck. An incision is made underneath the chin to remove the fat. The lax plastima muscle is then bound with sutures.

A Z-Plasty neck lift removes the excess skin and fat from the front of the neck closing the scar in a “Z” pattern. Although it can be performed on both men and women, men use it to avoid a face/neck lift.

The direct neck excision and Z-Plasty under chin removes a large fold of skin, the turkey wattle. The scar can be visible as it heals but fades between four to six months. It is usually more tolerated by older men because a shirt can hide the incision. Women usually opt for a facelift and neck surgery with the incision hidden in their hairline.

Similar to the direct neck lift, you may experience mild to moderate pain with some swelling and bruising. You will need to wear a compression garment for healing purposes for several weeks. Avoid any strenuous activities for two weeks and any prolonged exposure to the sun.

Procedure

Our Rancho Mirage direct neck lift takes up to three hours under anesthesia. Depending on how you react, you may go home after the surgery or stay overnight.

A direct neck lift deals with facial rejuvenation and skin laxity combining cervicoplasty (removes extra skin) and platysmaplasty (tightens underlying muscles in the neck) to create an appealing and youthful look from your chin to your chest.

During a direct excision neck lift, your surgeon will sedate you with a local anesthesia and place an incision underneath your chin to hide a scar. The surgeon then elevates the fat tissues and removes them (excision or liposuction). The platysma muscles are tightened and bound with sutures and your neck covered by a bandage. The removal of excess skin gets rid of the double chin or a turkey wattle appearance in your neck.

Some risks involved with this type of procedure are fairly minor such as a bad reaction to anesthesia, bleeding, infection and swelling.

Direct Neck Lift Recovery

To Ensure you get the best direct neck lift Rancho Mirage has to offer, it is important to follow all instructions from your plastic surgeon.

Following your direct neck lift surgery, you may experience mild to moderate pain with some swelling and bruising. Your plastic surgeon can prescribe medications to alleviate pain.

You shouldn't remove your bandage for at least 24 hours unless it gets dirty or wet. Make sure to follow your surgeon's guidelines when it comes to washing your bandage because you do not want the incisions to get too wet.

You will need to wear a compression garment for healing purposes for several weeks. Avoid any prolonged exposure to the sun and make sure to cover your bandage when you go outside.

You should avoid any strenuous activities for at least two weeks and make sure move your head and shoulders as one unit when turning and moving around. You'll need to sleep in an inclined position where your head is elevated for up to four weeks to reduce swelling. Patients return to work between two to four weeks following their surgery.

Your facial movement may be limited for a couple of weeks, especially if you laugh too much!
